Technical Lead

Fully Remote

£90,000–£100,000 + bonus + benefits

We’re partnered with a high-growth sports media network that operates a portfolio of market-leading brands and partnerships across the sports betting and tech space. Their mission is to empower sports fans with premium content, real-time insights, and cutting-edge tools, all powered by modern, cloud-native technology.

They are looking for an experienced Technical Lead to take ownership of backend architecture, lead a small team of engineers, and deliver scalable solutions on Google Cloud Platform. This is a hands-on leadership role with significant influence over technical direction, solution design, and best practice adoption.

Responsibilities as Technical Lead :

  • Architect and deliver high-performing, maintainable backend solutions in Java and Spring Boot
  • Take full ownership of headless CMS platforms (preferably Contentful), from design through to optimisation
  • Lead 5–6 engineers across backend, frontend, and QA, ensuring alignment across the product lifecycle
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into robust technical solutions
  • Drive cloud-native development using GCP services, containerisation (Kubernetes, Docker), and IaC (Terraform)
  • Promote and enforce code quality, testing best practices, and continuous integration
  • Mentor engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration
  • Optimise system performance, scalability, and cost efficiency

Key Requirements:

  • Proven track record in architecting and optimising headless CMS solutions (ideally Contentful)
  • Strong experience with Google Cloud Platform, microservices, and event-driven architectures
  • Skilled in Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, and cloud-native application patterns
  • Deep understanding of API design, distributed systems, and messaging technologies such as Pub/Sub or Kafka
  • Strong testing practices, with experience in JUnit, Mockito, and Cucumber
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to guide, mentor, and inspire teams

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary and remote working flexibility
  • Private healthcare, life assurance, and income protection
  • Pension scheme with up to 9% company contribution
  • Annual £1,000 training budget for professional development
  • Unlimited holiday policy
  • Free gym membership and lifestyle perks

This is a rare opportunity to combine hands-on technical leadership with the ability to shape the engineering culture and technical strategy of a leading player in the sports tech industry.
