Technical Business Analyst - HRIS & Payroll Transformation
Contract | 6 months | Outside IR35 | South East / Hybrid | £500 per day
A large, multi-site organisation with a sizeable hourly workforce is going through a major People Technology transformation. The programme covers core HRIS, payroll and the integrations around them.
They need a Technical Business Analyst to bring structure to the requirements. Some of the groundwork has been done, but core HR requirements still need proper definition. You’ll take discrete work packages, quickly work out what the business needs, and make sure those needs turn into solutions that work for end users.
What you’ll be doing
- Capturing and documenting business, user and system requirements across HRIS, payroll and connected People Tech (recruitment, onboarding, workforce management, benefits, identity, finance and reporting)
- Building and maintaining a requirements catalogue, with traceability from requirement through design, configuration and testing
- Translating requirements into field, data and integration mappings
- Making sure solutions meet HR best practice and legislation, including GDPR, and identifying compliance gaps and how to close them
- Mapping current and future-state processes, and highlighting dependencies, controls and ways to simplify
- Writing clear user stories, process flows and acceptance criteria for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Working closely with the Delivery Lead, architects, technical teams and suppliers to prioritise requirements and support design decisions
- Engaging HR, Payroll, Finance, Operations and Technology stakeholders at all levels
What we’re looking for
- 3+ years as a Business Analyst, with a BA qualification or equivalent hands-on experience
- A disciplined approach to requirements, combined with a practical focus on implementation
- Experience on HRIS, payroll or People Technology programmes
- Confidence with data and integration mapping (more technical than a typical BA role, but without low-level design)
- A solid working knowledge of GDPR and people-data legislation
- Adaptability: you can switch focus quickly when priorities change and stay calm and composed under pressure
- Ideally, payroll experience with hourly or high-turnover workforces in a high-volume, multi-entity environment
This isn’t a slow, months-long BRD exercise. Priorities can change quickly, and you may have a plan in place one day and be needed somewhere else the next. They want a pragmatic, hands-on BA who takes that in their stride and brings calm and clarity to a fast-moving programme.
